CONFIRMATION

What Is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a discipleship program for young people designed to help them grow in their personal faith, create strong and healthy habits for their spiritual lives, and become an active member of the congregation. The program concludes with the Rite of Confirmation on Reformation Sunday in which the young believers "confirm" the faith God gave them in their baptism as well as their desire to continue steadfast in the Christian faith.

Confirmation disciples will study the Old and New Testament of the Bible, as well as Martin Luther's Small Catechism. The study of the catechism will include six chief parts, including:
      10 Commandments
      Apostles' Creed
      Lord's Prayer
      Sacrament of Baptism
Sacrament of the Altar (Holy Communion)
      Confession

Confirmation is not "religion class", but the launching-pad for a life of following Jesus!

When Does Confirmation Start?

Confirmation can be started in 6th or 7th grade. However, the program can be started one year earlier or one year later if there are no other students to begin the program with.

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
— Deuteronomy 6:4-7

Monitor Progress- Keep up to date and sign off on things like memory work, service projects, and devotions
Attend Meetings-There will be a parental meeting at the start of the program to go over the schedule and curriculum. There will also be some class sessions that one or both parents will attend with their children.
Pray-One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is our devotion to them in prayer.
